VI Variations: Dear Grandpa
Calligraphy and ICM Poetic Visual
1994, March 2025-
Shunde Chencun, Scotland
Calligraphy: Huen NG, ICM Poetic Photography: Lydia Lulla NG
Dear Grandpa is a project about family heritage and memory. This project is a collaboration with my late grandpa. The works are based on the only piece of my grandpa Chinese calligraphy on Xuan paper which I have now. Indeed, this project was motivated by the shocking news of I couldn‘t never be able to get back my great-grand father’s photo as it was turned into ashes in fire. I bursted into tears and realised what I only have now is the calligraphy of my grandpa. ICM photography becomes a way for me to have dialogue and collaboration with my grandpa's life and artwork. Through ICM I reinterpret his art language, and the ICM of the trees in my new home in Scotland become a cross generation echoes to his work.
I don't know how to define this project, as it is about valuable family treasure, connection and heritage. This project is raw, immature but intimate that I created it with strong emotions.
Dear grandpa,
Thank you grandpa.
